Ohio Funds Brownfield Remediation Program
Nearly $350 million has been made available to brownfield sites in Ohio under new rules released by the Ohio Department of Development. Of those dollars, $262 million were made available on a first-come, first-serve basis for any site qualifying as a brownfield. Under Ohio law, an abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial, or institutional property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by known or potential releases of hazardous substances or petroleum is considered a brownfield.
The Brownfield Remediation Program also sets aside $1 million for each of Ohio’s 88 counties, to be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until June 30, 2022 at which time the money will revert to the general fund.
Funds were also authorized for the Building and Demolition Program, which was created to award grants for the demolition of commercial and residential buildings and revitalization of surrounding properties on sites that are not brownfields.
