Over 25 years ago, MD began with a group of environmental attorneys, some with young children at home, who set out to prove that lawyers can earn a living and have a rich family life. A firm with these values cannot thrive unless there is a commitment to integrity, professionalism and teamwork from everyone involved. MD has been privileged to find attorneys and staff with these fundamental values and we have continued to be a firm where dignity and respect for people and the environment are a part of everyday life.

The firm supports the practice development of its lawyers by supporting their professional causes, nominating them for awards and leadership programs, providing time during the work day to attend marketing and professional development events, and encouraging them to take on community and industry leadership roles.
Our retention and promotion of attorneys has been possible because of our mentoring atmosphere. When good teaching opportunities present themselves, MD involves an associate – whether that means accompanying a senior attorney to a court appearance, a meeting with an agency, or a client site visit. This gives associates the benefit of seeing the full circle of our work and meeting clients face-to-face, opportunities many young lawyers do not have.
