Lee A. Slone

BACKGROUND

Lee’s practice centers on environmental litigation, transactional and regulatory matters, including work involving the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and other major state and federal environmental regulatory programs. He has significant experience structuring environmental due diligence for real estate and business transactions.

Lee has a diverse client base including government entities, developers, individuals and businesses of all sizes whom he counsels on all aspects of environmental regulations.

Lee is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio, the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE & FOCUS

Lee’s practice focuses on counseling and defending private and public sector clients of all sizes in environmental and energy matters.  He primarily advises clients on issues related to federal, state and local environmental regulation, pre-purchase environmental due diligence in real estate, land development, land use, energy projects, permit review and enforcement defense. He has counseled clients on solar projects, advised on TSCA and FIFRA issues, and handled a federal debarment matter.

Lee has litigated complex matters in the areas of surface water, drinking and groundwater, and wastewater. Prior to his recent work in private practice, Lee served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio, where he litigated matters in courts throughout Ohio, and worked directly with Ohio EPA’s Division of Surface Water and Division of Drinking and Groundwater.

Lee has appeared before the Environmental Review Appeals Commission (ERAC), the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB), the Ohio Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Compensation Board (PUSTRCB), as well as numerous state and federal courts.

EDUCATION

Lee received a BA from Earlham College and his JD from University of Dayton School of Law. Lee also earned his MSc in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Wright State University, where his thesis focused on microbial cycling and nutrient dynamics in a large Ohio river.
